Thank you for visiting Minus Cloud Nine.
A bit about me; my name is Charlotte Robinson, I was born and raised in Middlesbrough and moved to London when I was 19 to study and have been here ever since.
Minus Cloud Nine was a project I started in my final year of University as I was suffering with PTSD which triggered my depression and anxiety. I couldn't focus on my work; therefore I revolved all of my studies around what I could focus on, this is how the original illustrations came about.
For about two years I was a support system for someone dealing with very severe depression. When I used to try and understand how they were feeling the only description was “there is just a huge black cloud right above my head”. This is how the original illustrations were born.
I wanted to do anything and everything I could for them, which ultimately made me very ill with depression. My PTSD was triggered after watching this individual attempt suicide and I couldn't do anything to stop them.
I think it is important to say, up until everything that happened to me I was extremely ignorant to mental health (uneducated!), which plays a massive factor in why I want to push this project. It is not just for people who have suffered, it is for EVERYONE. Let’s educate, share, help and support one another and most importantly FUCK THAT FUCKING STIGMA!
My goal is to eventually have people wearing the clothes and the figures/designs get recognised which encourages conversations between people. To also create an online community where people can share pictures of themselves in their garms and #whyiwearthecloud to share their own story and show the #minusninemovement working!
If I can get more people talking about how they’re feeling or sharing their experiences and helping others who are struggling, then I’ve achieved everything I’ve wanted and more!
Please follow @minuscloudnine to be part of the journey, see other people’s stories / experiences with mental health and most importantly support one another! I have always wanted to design and screen print, this way I am able to mix what I love to do with, hopefully, helping others.
